Background

I began my academic training at the Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja, where I earned a degree in Computer Engineering with the thesis entitled: “La educación virtual en el Ecuador: Análisis de los usos de la tecnología en los estudiantes de la Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral”. I later completed my studies in the Master’s in Human Resource Management and Direction at the Universitat de Barcelona, developing and implementing the project: “Plan de Gestión de RRHH del Colegio Santo Domingo de Guzmán” in Guayaquil.

Having worked at the Colegio Santo Domingo de Guzmán, in the city of Guayaquil (Ecuador), for more than 22 years, I felt the need to shift my professional training and moved into studies in education. That is why I earned a Master’s in Education, with a specialisation in Teaching and Learning Processes, from Tecnológico de Monterrey, with the thesis: “El uso de portafolio como una herramienta de evaluación de desempeño en la disciplina de matemáticas en el marco de un modelo basado en destrezas a nivel bachillerato”. My thesis work sparked a professional inclination and a new passion for assessment and self-assessment.

Subsequently, I decided to deepen my professional training and completed a series of postgraduate diplomas, such as the Diploma in Directive Management of Educational Organisations awarded by the Universidad Católica de Santiago de Guayaquil, and the Diploma in Educational Quality and Leadership awarded by the Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja.

In addition, at the academic level I have served as Director of graduation and thesis projects, and as a jury member and member of Graduate Thesis Committees. I have been a guest reviewer for the journal PODIUM of the Universidad de Especialidades Espíritu Santo; a guest evaluator of Educational Innovation Proposals for NOVUS of the Institute for the Future of Education of Tecnológico de Monterrey; and a guest reviewer for the journal Sapientia Technological of the Instituto Superior Tecnológico Almirante Illingworth.

I have published some works related to assessment, metacognition and self-regulation, and taken part in conferences such as COMIE in Mexico, Universidad Sergio Arboleda in Bogotá, Universidad Tecnológica ECOTEC, Tecnológico Universitario ARGOS, and the Universidad de Especialidades Espíritu Santo (UEES).

Among the published academic works and scientific output are: “La autoevaluación: actualidad y tendencias de su práctica a favor del desarrollo de competencias profesionales”, “El uso del portafolio como herramienta de evaluación de desempeño en Matemáticas”, “La autoevaluación como práctica que incide en la autorregulación del aprendizaje y la metacognición: resultados iniciales de un estudio latinoamericano en estudiantes universitarios”, “Revisión de la literatura y primeros hallazgos sobre prácticas de autoevaluación en escenarios educativos latinoamericanos” and “Realidad aumentada para lectoescritura, desarrollo de una App para dispositivos móviles en la Unidad Educativa Fiscomisional El Profeta Jeremías 1ero EGB”.

Currently, I am pursuing the Doctorate in Education at the Jesuit Universidad Católica de Córdoba in Argentina. I consider training and professional development important in order to keep developing my skills through educational research, so that I can continue exploring the world of assessment systems, metacognition, teaching and learning, with a view to taking part in building a dynamic, up-to-date and purposeful education.
