Background
Ever since I was a child I wanted to be a researcher. I didn’t quite know in which area or about what; I was simply passionate about the idea of doing research. I studied three different degrees before starting Psychology, until I discovered that I wanted to learn more about human behaviour.
I studied Psychology at the Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata, where I currently work. When I graduated, I was offered a job at a school and began to specialise in learning processes. Three years later I completed a Master’s and a Doctorate in Education, in the field of Educational Psychology, at the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP), Brazil.
I returned to my School, which had been reopened after being closed during Argentina’s military dictatorship, and where research was still very incipient. I joined the Researcher Career of the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET) and devoted myself to academic work, exploring different areas of human behaviour, always linked to learning and to the functioning of cognitive processes. I have worked on the psychological characteristics related to adolescent learning, on the relationships between literacy learning and the development of executive functions, on the psychological characteristics and academic performance of university students, and I am currently studying the effects of the pandemic and social isolation on emotions, especially in older adults.
I am currently the Deputy Director of the Institute where I work and a Lecturer in the courses “Theories of Learning” and “Cognitive Psychology”, both in the third year of the Psychology degree at the Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata. I am a member of the Academic Committee of my School’s Doctoral programme, of which I was the first Director. I have also worked for 30 years in private practice, with Cognitive Behavioural Therapies, which allows me to stay in real contact with what people experience and feel. I have carried out psychological assessments in the criminal justice system, I evaluate undergraduate and graduate university programmes, and I have conducted community interventions.
I really enjoy what I do and I go to work happy every morning. Sometimes I get overwhelmed and find it hard to keep up with everything I would like to do. I am very grateful for the opportunity to be part of this great team!
