Background

I am an educational psychologist who graduated from Universidad Católica Nuestra Señora de la Asunción. From the outset of my professional career, my interests have focused on understanding learning processes and supporting children and adolescents with diverse educational needs and developmental difficulties.

I furthered my training in this field through a specialization in Neuropsychology under Dr Juan Enrique Azcoaga at APINEP in Buenos Aires. I subsequently earned a Master’s degree in Neuropsychology from the National University of Córdoba, Argentina, and a Master’s degree in Augmentative and Alternative Communication and Language Systems from the National University of Distance Education (UNED), Spain. I completed my academic training with a Doctorate in Psychology from the Catholic University of Asunción.

Throughout my career, I have sought to integrate clinical practice, teaching, and research. In my clinical work, I conduct neuropsychological assessments and interventions with children and adolescents, particularly in cases involving learning, language, and developmental difficulties. This experience has enabled me to connect theoretical knowledge with the specific needs of children, their families, and their educational settings.

At university level, I teach in the Psychology programme at the Catholic University of Asunción, where I lecture in Biological Foundations of Behaviour II and the Seminar on the Development of Thinking Skills. I have also served as coordinator and lecturer for the Master’s Programme in Neuropsychology of Learning Difficulties, supervised undergraduate and postgraduate theses at universities in Paraguay and abroad, and reviewed articles for scientific journals.

I also teach in postgraduate programmes at the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO) in Asunción, including diploma programmes in Neuroeducation, Neuropsychology of Language, Augmentative and Alternative Communication Systems, Executive Functions, and Metacognition. These experiences reflect one of my primary interests: understanding how people become aware of, regulate, and transform their own learning processes.

I am a founding member of the Paraguayan Association of Neuropsychology and serve on its Executive Committee as Coordinator of the Scientific Committee. I am also a founding member and the current President of the Latin American Society of Neuropsychology. Through these organisations, I promote education, research, and the dissemination of neuropsychology in Paraguay and throughout Latin America.

I am the author of Meaningful Learning and Radical Conceptual Change and co-author of Brain and Fiction. My professional work continues to focus on the study of learning, language, thinking, executive functions, and metacognition, understood as a fundamental capacity to reflect on how we learn, recognise our strategies, and consciously regulate our cognitive processes.
