Academic profiles

Background

I am a Full Professor (2028) and Full Researcher (2021) in the Department of Basic Training of the Universidad de La Habana, Cuba. I have worked at that university since 2002, and I am currently Deputy Dean for Graduate Studies, Research and International Relations of the Faculty of Psychology, as well as coordinator of the Master’s in Educational Psychology. I teach undergraduate and graduate courses such as Cognitive Processes, Reading-comprehension Intervention, Educational Neurosciences, and Psychological Assessment and Intervention in Education. I am head of the research line “Neuropsychology and Neurosciences”. I currently direct a research project belonging to the National Programme of Neurosciences and Neurotechnologies (PNCTI-NN), in which I am also an expert. On the Cuban side, I coordinate an international collaboration project with the Universidad de Almería, Spain.

In my undergraduate training I hold a degree in Psychology (2002) from the Universidad de La Habana, with graduate qualifications in Attentional Networks and Neurocognitive Assessment from the Neuroscience Center of Cuba, and in scientific texts and academic writing from the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla. I hold a Master’s in Educational Psychology (2008) with research on reading-comprehension intervention in Cuban university students. I hold a Doctorate in Psychological Sciences (2017) from the Universidad de La Habana, with research on reading-comprehension intervention in Cuban schoolchildren, in which two comprehension-assessment instruments were validated for the Cuban context and two strategy programmes were applied to 6th-grade children.

I have developed research projects and supervised undergraduate, Master’s and, currently, doctoral theses on topics such as the assessment and intervention of general- and specific-domain cognitive processes, reading comprehension, learning strategies, reading fluency, executive functions, digital tools to improve learning, numerical processing, and mild cognitive impairment, among others. I have carried out research stays and scientific and academic exchanges at universities in Spain (Universidad de Granada and Universidad de Almería), Germany (University of Münster), Mexico (Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla, Universidad Popular Autónoma del Estado de Puebla, Universidad Iberoamericana), Costa Rica (Universidad de Costa Rica), Panama (Universidad de Panamá) and Ecuador (Universidad de Cuenca). I have taken part in more than 50 international events in Cuba, Mexico, the United States, Panama, Spain, Germany and Ecuador over the last 10 years.
