I would like to highlight my academic and professional journey, characterized by a persistent passion for research and the interaction between people and technology. After several attempts, I found my calling in the academic field, where I have devoted my efforts to understanding how people interact with technology and the phenomena that arise from this interaction. My initial training as a software engineer provided a solid foundation, although I did not initially see the clear connection with academic research.
My commitment to research was solidified during my master’s and doctoral studies in Madrid, where I immersed myself in the study of human-computer interaction. This experience not only broadened my academic horizons but also inspired me to integrate the specific needs and characteristics of end users into the development of new technologies. It was a turning point that shifted my focus towards creating more inclusive and user-centered technologies.
Upon returning to Chile, I specialized in constructing methods and methodologies to ensure the active participation of end users in the technological development process. Additionally, I directed my efforts towards creating technological solutions for people with diverse abilities, such as children with autism, Down syndrome, intellectual disabilities, and older adults. In each project, my primary goal was to improve the quality of life for these individuals through technology.
The culmination of each project not only involved the development of the technology itself but also a detailed analysis of user experience and technology adoption. This approach led me to collaborate closely with metacognition specialists, recognizing the importance of understanding how users perceive, utilize, and learn through the technologies we create. My involvement in interdisciplinary projects allowed me to explore and apply metacognitive principles to enhance the effectiveness and usability of our technological solutions.
Currently, I am gratified to serve as a teacher and researcher at the second largest university in Chile. I have had the privilege of actively participating in the editing of a book on education and technology, as well as the publication of numerous works in indexed journals, conference presentations, and the writing of chapters for specialized books.
In summary, my professional trajectory has been characterized by a continuous commitment to user-centered research and technological innovation, with an increasingly deeper focus on integrating metacognition to understand and improve user experience with technology.
