One of the recent directions in the study of metacognition, as a psychological phenomenon, is the exploration of whether it is a universal construct across cultures and academic domains, constituting a cognitive macro-ability that is executive in nature. Conversely, the evaluation, structure, components, and experiences of metacognition may be specific to culture and domain. With the objective to advance this important line of inquiry, Antonio and Diana founded the International Group for the study of metacognition as a permanent collaboration between researchers and scholars across the world interested in studying and better understanding metacognition in learners and teachers in different regions and cultures of the world.
